Hair Revival

I’ve been planning this post for a while now, as my hair has been through quite the drama, but after much love and care, I’ve nursed it back to health. But before I share with you how I did that, I need to tell you how it got damaged in the first place.

Prepare yourself for an emotional anecdote . . .

Ok, so back in October 2013, I decided I was going to dye my hair slightly darker for Halloween, as I dressed up as Elphaba from Wicked (The Wicked Witch of the West). But when I went to the drugstore, they didn’t have my usual darkest-brown colour, so I was forced to switch brands (heaven forbid!) and go with another ‘Dark Brown’.

Let’s just say it ended badly.

My hair went black. Yes black. Dull and lifeless. It just killed my hair. You know when you normally dye your hair and it’s left feeling smooth and silky, yeah? Well it was nothing like that. It was a nightmare.

Serves me right for trying to do it myself eh?

So, a few days later after many tears and several shampooing attempts, I went to my trusty hairdresser and begged her to fix me. She said that the only way to get rid of the black was to put a bold colour into it. She suggested red or purple. So I went with the red and hoped for the best.

A few days later, I went back to become a redhead, and you can imagine my expression when she brought out tomato-red coloured dye! But fortunately, it turned out well, and my hair was a little more hydrated – but it was definitely an improvement from the black.

After only a few washes, the red dye began to wash out really badly, and I was left with 6 inch ORANGE roots. Yes orange. So again, I went back to my hairdresser, who touched up the red. It was ok. I mean, she did an amazing job getting rid of the black, but because I have such pale skin I think the red just made me look quite ill. And by February, I was bored of red hair.

So, February half term rolled around and I decided to dye it again myself, but this time with my normal colour and brand – and it worked out fine, although it was more of a lighter brown than I’d wished for!

By late March, my roots began to grow back and the red reappeared, this was not fun. And in the light, my hair looked about a zillion different colours.

All I wanted was my natural hair back – why did I ever dye it in the first place?

Then the week before last, I went to my hairdresser for the last time who kindly dyed my hair back to my natural colour (just in time for prom!) using an amazing INOA dye – which I absolutely love!

In my opinion, Brunettes should stay brunette and I definitely will be doing for the next 50 years or so, or until I learn to be more careful.

But all in all, the quality of my hair is absolutely lovely now, and it’s never been shinier, so I thought I’d share with you my top three Hair revival products:

1.         Kérastase Resistance – Ciment Thermique £15.60
This product is basically like a heat-protecting top seal for your hair. But not only that, it reconstructs damaged hair particularly the ends, and it leaves it smelling and feeling absolutely divine. I first tried this out in a salon and paid £30 for it up front – and it lasted me and my mum 4 months between the two of us. And then, recently I found it online at Look Fantastic for only £15.60, and they sent me lots of offers so I got it for something like £11 – which I was over the moon with.

I’d recommend this product to anyone who regularly uses straighteners or curlers on their hair, because this is by-far the best heat protection product I’ve used, and it really works!

2.         L’oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil £9.99
For any of you that use hair oil, you will appreciate this product. It works on all hair types and it incredibly weightless. I’ve tried a few that leave your hair quite greasy and knotty – which totally defies the point of hair oil. But this one is to die for. It’s also super versatile. You can use it before you shower, after on damp hair and even when your hair is dry as it blends in really quickly leaving your hair luxuriously nourished. And to top it all off, it even has up to 230°c heat protection!

3.         Dove Hair Therapy Express Treatment Conditioner £3.99
Last but not least: my go-to miracle treatment. This conditioner is an express treatment, meaning it gets to work super-fast giving instant results. I only have use this conditioner about once a fortnight, because it’s just so good and lasts that long. Basically, you replace your regular conditioner with this, and leave it on for about a minute, then wash it out. And instantly you will feel the difference. And on top of all its reviving qualities – the smell is to die for!

The one I have is for Extra-Dry to frizzy hair, but you can get different ones for each hair type. This is such a lovely product and it leaves my hair feeling healthy and soft. I’ll definitely be repurchasing this one again soon!

Note: I wouldn’t suggest that you use all three of these products together at the same time as your bobbles may very well just slide out of your hair all together purely because these products work so darn well. So, use with care! I hope this post has helped some of you discover new products to try out, as these three have worked wonders for me!

I hope you’re all enjoying the break, and not working too hard,

Love Roseanne

The Leavers Ball

Just less than a week ago, I attended my final school event: My Sixth Form Leavers Ball, and right now I’m sitting in my bedroom trying to revise and ignore the dull weather we’re having, reminiscing Last Friday’s antics. (Great - now I have 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' in my head;)

The ball was held at a fancy hotel called Morley Hayes and it was a top class night! We started off with a lovely drinks reception, then went up to the dance floor to shimmy the night away. There was even a photobooth (!) which we all had loads of fun in – thank you so much to our student presidents for organising the whole event – it was a wonderful farewell party!

On to what I wore . . .

Bag - John Lewis
Shoes - New Look
Headband - River Island

Well, I have to say, that I literally went on a full to-the-moon-and-back style mission to get this dress as, somehow, none of the shops had my size, or the dress for that matter! But three tries later I got it, thanks to the lovely people at Warehouse Liverpool! As they delivered it to my local store!

Nails- Barry M Gelly 'LYCHEE' & sparkle

Here are a few more pics from the night:

Me and Emma - isn't her hair just to die for?

In the photobooth with my girls!

Me and my bestie Nicole!

It was truly a night to remember (not just the bruises!) and I’m really happy that I made so many good friends at Sixth Form – it’s been an amazing two years. But I have to say that I am totally ready for the next stage of my life - but I'll never forget these guys!

Presently, I only have two A Level exams left (4 down woo!) and then I’m free to enjoy summer!

Good Luck to all of you that are doing exams in the coming months – stay positive!

à bientôt,

Love Roseanne

Flapper Girl

Yesterday was my LAST EVER DAY AT SCHOOL. i.e sixth form. And i can't believe it. It seems like five minutes ago when joined sixth form,  as the only girl from my old school, hoping to make friends and settle in nicely - BUT that was almost two whole years ago!

As they say "Time flies when you're having fun!" and it certainly does! I'm so thankful to all the people at Sixth form that have made these past two years so wonderful. I've met some amazing people that I hope to remain best friends with for life. Because honestly, I think school is one of the best times of your life and you should really put the effort in and enjoy it because it will soon pay off.

Ok. Enough with the soppy bit... and on to our outfits *woop woop*! For our leavers day, it's a tradition to go out in style, so we all dressed up (hey why not? You only leave once right?)

My best girlfriends and I dressed up as our favourite fashion eras and I was twenties (of course!)

Here is what I wore:

Crochet Dress: TKMaxx
Shoes: Primark
Bag: Cath Kidston
Headband: River Island

Honestly, this was such a fun fancy dress day - I really enjoyed getting ready and being a flapper girl for the day. The dress I wore was an absolute treasure from TKMaxx, it was just so pretty and lovely, I really hope that I can find an excuse to wear it again.

Hair and Makeup
For my hair, I curled it then tucked it under and pinned it up, into a twenties style bob cut, and added a sparkly headband. I was so proud with the way my hair turned out, as a few people actually thought that I'd cut my hair off! And as for makeup I did a light smokey eye using different shades of brown. Along with a red lip, I used 'Burgundy' by GOSH Cosmetics.

Here is a picture of our group:

Left to right: Nicole 70's (she did have skates on at one point), Me 20's, Emma 60's and Frances 50's.

Make sure you check out Emma's blog too!

I hope you all enjoyed this post! If you've done any fancy dress blogposts - be sure to leave me a link below and I'll be sure to have a good read.

Good luck with all your exams guys, stick to it - you can do it!

Lots of Love,

Roseanne xx

April Beauty Favourites

Hey Dolls! Welcome back (or just welcome if you’re a new reader!) Right, I know what you’re thinking -  where have you been, why are you neglecting us? So let’s address that first…
I am super duper sorry about my normal weekly schedule being messed up, it’s getting to exam season now, and I had my A2 French Oral exam yesterday and I have four more exams to come (eek). So bear with me at the mo, and hopefully I’ll be getting back to my normal schedule soon!

Right, now that’s all out of the way here are my April Beauty Favourites (*jumps for joy*)…

The reason I’d left it so long to post this was because I was waiting for my new Real Techniques Core Collection brushes to arrive, and if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that they came yesterday.. and it was totally worth the wait! This morning I applied my foundation with the pointed foundation brush and it honestly goes on  a lot easier than before! So I'm really happy with that purchase. I got them online at LookFantastic, and there is discount with Unidays so I got them for £17 as opposed to £21, which is quite a deal considering they sell individually for about £10.

Secondly, we have my first ever MAC purchase. The 'Studio Fix Fluid' Foundation - mine is in shade NW10 and praise the lord it matches my skin tone! I used to always have trouble finding a foundation light enough for my skin, that wasn't too streaky or pinky - but alas, I have found it. This is basically a medium/high coverage matte foundation, so if this is the kind of look you'd like i'd highly recommend it!I have started applying this with the RT pointed foundation brush, which is really great with this foundation.

Do you use mac foundations? Can you relate to my paleness problems?

Next is the Healthy Balance Matte Powder from Bourjois. I absolutely adore this powder foundation, as it has such a smooth finish on my skin. I usually only wear this by itself, if I'm not doing much or just nipping to town - when I don't need my face on (hehe!) It's great for the natural look, which I tend to adopt regularly. Mine is in the shade  'Vanilla' and I will definately be repurchasing this item!

Moving away from beauty items and on to hair products, my latest hair styling must-have is the VO5 'Plump it Up' Mousse. I use this on towel dried hair and work in from the roots down. The mousse itself is so light you can hardly tell it's in your hair, as some mousse's (haha 'moose') can leave your hair heavy and sticky.

Last but not least is the Soap & Glory 'Scrub of your life', and oh my it's goood! First of all, the exfoliating scrub bits are pink (yes, pink) and secondly it leaves your skin feeling super soft and silky, without being too harsh or rough. I thoroughly recommend this product and have already purchased my second tub bottle tube(?)

Do you like any of these products? If you liked this post then be sure to leave me a comment below, I'll be sure to reply as soon as possible!

Lots of Love,

Roseanne xx
