DIY Lip Scrub

We all know that Lush do the best lip scrubs around, but personally I can’t afford to spend £5.50 each time I run out, when it seems like such a simple thing to make. So today my little sister Claire and I had a go ourselves and we were rather proud of the result, which I shall now share with you...

You'll need:
©    A small pot
©    2 teaspoons of granulated sugar
©    A spot of olive oil
©    A teeny drop of vanilla extract
©    Food colouring of your choice

And all you have do is mix them all together – easy right? It should turn out something like this:

I used an old Body Shop lippy pot

Don’t be worried about the food colouring dying your lips a different colour as you won’t have it on for more than a minute or just until you’re satisfied with the results!

Personally, I think this DIY lip scrub is the bomb, and I will definitely be reproducing this yummy lip product when it runs out.

So get scrubbing for smooth, soft lips!

My Week in Pictures

Hey dolls! So, it's been just under a week since my last blogpost and a whole lotta stuff has happened to me since then, so I thought I'd do a 'My Week in Pictures' kinda thing, as I have a few things that I want to share with you and I personally really enjoy these posts.

Left to Right (1) to (6)

(1) Last week me and my closest friends went into town to party up pre-results day, and it was such a good night out! I'm so thankful that I have the best of friends and I really hope that we’ll remain close after A-Level :)

(2) I DID IT GUYS!!!!! Totally unexpected! But I did it! I got four B's in my A Levels and I couldn't be happier because I only needed BCC for my first choice course. It's surreal to think that in 25 days I'll be living 156 miles away from home but I can't wait! Also a big congrats to you if you made it through your A-Levels and are off to uni! :)

(3) Elle Collections. I live for this magazine. It's basically a sum-up of all the recent shows and trends all in one, and comes out twice yearly. (s/s and a/w) Also the fact that it's nearly autumn makes me very excited! And if you are a regular reader of All Things Rosy, you'll know that I don't adapt to warm weather very well.

(4) On Saturday, my wonderful cousin Jessica and I went for a wander around town, to pick up a few bits, and decided to go for a cheeky celebratory meal at Nandos. It was really nice to see her, and have a proper good chat before we split up again in September (For Uni) it's nice to know that despite not seeing each other as often as we'd like, that we can still be so close. *P.S. how cool are the lights in Nandos!*

(5) Shameless lipstick selfie. I was off to a friend's 18th birthday party and couldn't help snapping a pic of my new GOSH 'burgundy lipstick'.

(6) I baked a yummy Victoria's Sponge, after my sister's constant begging! It turned out surprisingly better than expected and was rather scrumptious - so watch out Mary Berry! #GBBO

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know if you'd like to see more of these posts, or if you have any suggestions.

Goodbye my lovelies and thanks for reading,

What's on my face? / Natural Makeup Look

This is my average ‘natural’ makeup look that I wear day to day, as it’s simple to do and I like how it turns out. Obviously if I were going out, I’d put a bit more eyeshow & mascara on and add a darker lip, but for everyday – this works for me. Hope you like it!

Foundation – Mac Studio Fix Fluid NW10 (YES the lightest shade *cowers in the corner for being shamefully pale*)

Powder – Bourjois healthy balance in ‘52 Vanille’ (to seal!)

Mascara – Rimmel 100% waterproof

Eyeshadow -  Revlon ’05 Blushed Wines’ Colourstay
palette. Darkest colour under eye, and the others on lid.

Eyebrows – Matte Brown Next eyeshadow from their ‘Cashmere palette’.

Blush – Bourjois Rose de Jaspe 95

Concealer РBellapierr̩ Makeup base

Lips – Mac Cremesheen ‘Peach Blossom’ / Carmex

I’m also really keen to try out liquid eyeliner as I’ve never been too good at it myself, and just purchased Soap and Glory’s ‘Supercat’ eyeliner, so if you have any tricks, I’d love to hear them so that I can get cracking at it!

(Can you tell I’m procrastinating by blogging in order to try and forget about results tomorrow? Oh well! Wish me luck!)

SCRUB YOUR NOSE IN IT - Review

Hello my lovelies ! Today I thought I’d share with you my thoughts on Soap & Glory’s 'Scrub your nose in it facial scrub/mask, as I’ve been using it for just over a month and absolutely adore it!

I bought this as my previous scrub - the Clarins Exfoliating Cleanser ran out, and I wasn’t feeling up to repurchasing it at £20, so when I saw that Soap & Glory had their own scrub at only £9, I was intrigued. So I snatched it up in boots and have been using it for just over a month, therefore I thought it was about time that I shared my experience with it with you.

Upon first glance, you may think that £9 seems rather pricey, but you only need a teeny tiny dollop of the scrub and you’re good to go. I must have used it at least 15 to 20 times now and it has hardly gone down at all – which is great, as it means it will last a long time.

It comes out a peppermint greeny kind of colour and has the most divine minty smell, though it isn’t over powering like some medical scrubs. More like toothpaste, so if you like that, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this. There are small sugar-like exfoliating granules in the scrub which work to ‘declog’ your pores and leave your face feeling soft and smooth.

After using this product regularly for 5 weeks, I have seen an improvement in my skin, especially on my forehead, which was slightly bumpy before, but now it feels and looks much better. I think the best way to describe how my face feels after ‘Scrubbing my nose in it’, is freshly cleansed. Which is really all I was looking to get from this facial scrub. It also leaves your face feeling really cool afterwards, it isn’t too harsh on the skin and doesn’t dry the skin out after use.

Although, I wold suggest applying moisturiser after-use, at the moment I’m using another cheeky Soap & Glory product; their ‘For Daily Youth’ moisture lotion. Which I find perfect for after cleansing as it’s so light. I stole this product off my Mum, who wasn’t too keen on the smell, as it smells of apricot yogurt - Yum!

Overall, I have found that it really does work wonders if you’re looking for something new to try I’d definitely recommend this product.

Have you tried this product? How did you find it? Can you recommend any other S&G products, as I’m keen to try more, let me know in the comments below!

Bonne journée!

(Have a nice day!)

A Levels - What did I study?

Recently, the lovely Merrin from ‘M is for Merrin’ asked if I would do a sort of review post on the courses that I took for A Level and basically how I got through them. So I thought I’d give it a go, especially if some people may enjoy it or find it useful.

Background info:  I went to a rather small secondary school with roughly 600 pupils spread across 5 year groups. When the time came to choose what to do after year 11, I opted for a sixth form, relatively nearer my house, therefore out of the 120 in my year group, only 2 of us were to attend the new sixth form.
And honestly, going to sixth form was the best decision of my life! The sixth form I went to was part of an academy school which was insanely larger than my previous school (3 times larger to be exact!), which made it seem quite overwhelming at first but I soon got used to it and settled in quite nicely.

For A Level I took French, English Language and Textiles. I also took Maths for AS but dropped it before the end of year 12 as it wasn't for me.

In my opinion, if you take Maths you really have to enjoy it and have a passion for it, which will spur you on to put all your effort in to lessons and work out of lessons. This is where I failed. I hated maths. And have no clue why I took it. But hey-ho, it was a learning experience I guess.

Ok, so now I’m just gonna go through each course and how I found it, giving advice where I can, hoping that you find it useful!

French
A Level French is hard. That is a fact. If you want to take it, you will need to prioritise it. I found that the jump from year 11 to 12 was much harder for me than others in my class, as I was already a bit behind due to my lack of knowledge of some rules/tenses which weren’t really covered at my old school. This was really disappointing for me as I really loved French, but I soon caught up and really got in to the subject.

Year 13 French is considerably harder than Y12 as it’s in this year that you can become fluent. The one thing that will really help with French (or any language course) is constant revision of vocab. I suggest making a little book organised by topic, that you can easily revise from, and as my French teacher would say “the more vocab you have under your belt, the safer you’ll be in the exam”.

PARIS TRIP - MARCH 2014
I found Year 13 French really enjoyable, it was insanely hard, as you have to study a French book and other cultural topics, so constant revision throughout the year was important. But we got to go to Paris (!) which really helped us get an idea of the french language in use which was really fun and we learnt so so much while we were there (just in time for our oral exam!)

English Language
Honestly, I didn’t find English Language very hard at all compared to French and textiles since they required so much dedication. But overall I did really enjoy it! At AS we did ‘Language and Power’ and ‘Language and Gender’ which I found really interesting and this inspired me to do an Extended Project on the Gender Stereotypes in the modern society. Then at A2 we studied ‘Language
Change’ and ‘Language Acquisition’ (how children learn to read/talk).

I found that the main thing that will really help you sail through this course is being able to understand and recall all the linguistic terms that you learn at AS well, as they are the basis for A2 as well.

Textiles
Before AS, I had never really made anything before. Unless you count an oversized felt phone case I made in year 8. Other than that I had no clue what I was getting myself into.

After a while, and with the help of two wonderful teachers I had learnt many new skills and mastered hand embroidery, machine embroidery, beading and dress-making!

The textiles course that I took was actually called ‘Textiles: Art & Design’ which meant that the quality your observational drawings needed to be really good as it made up about 30% of your grade. This didn’t really sit well with me. I got an A in GCSE Art, but this was nothing compared to the Arty skill level in my Textiles class, which was very high.

A few things I made this year for Textiles.

Overall, Textiles was great. I learnt a lot and really enjoyed it. But it was a lot of work. You really do get what you put in, and I spent the majority of my free periods in textiles making samples and doing artist connections. I do recommend Textiles as an A Level course and I think that it goes really well with Art or Double Art, as the courses are very similar.
-     Fin –

Unfortunately I have another 2 weeks wait until I find out my A Level Results, which I am anxiously awaiting! But hopefully I’ve answered most of your questions but don’t hesitate to leave me a message if you have any other queries – I’d be happy to help!

Lots of Love

From Roseanne
